Damask Rose

The rose has been loved for its beauty by all peoples, while the ancient Greeks and Romans deified it, giving it the form of the goddess of love and beauty, Aphrodite. There are many myths surrounding the plant, one of them says that the first roses were born with the goddess Aphrodite, when she came out of the sea and they were white. Once the protégé of Adonis was injured while hunting, the goddess in her haste to get to him pierced her foot on the thorns of the plant and since then its color turned red.

The rose species we offer is Rosa damascena Mill. i.e. Damask Rose or Rose of Castile. This rose has its roots in Damascus, Syria from where it came to Europe through the crusaders and from there it spread to the rest of the continent where it was loved for its fragrance and pink color.

Cuisine

The rose can give its wonderful aroma to teas instead of other sweeteners such as sugar or honey, be used alone for hot or cold drinks, liqueurs as well as sweets or put it in sauces, casseroles, soups and cooked vegetables wherever it needs attention and a small amount so as not to sweeten our food too much.

Traditional properties

The rose has been used since ancient times for various ailments. Its aroma and decoction gives us a sense of well-being and calm, while it is also diuretic and an excellent tonic.
