Honeysuckle

Honeysuckle got its name from its ability to attract bees and in ancient times it was dedicated to the goddess Artemis. More than 2000 years ago it was used as a medicinal herb with references from Dioscorides and Theophrastus as well as from the Roman Pliny. In the Middle Ages it was believed to be a love charm, an elixir for longevity and that it could act against headaches.

Cooking

Honeysuckle has a sweet, lemony flavor and can accompany soups, fish, mushrooms, lemonade and poultry or meats especially as a marinade. Along with honeysuckle we can use herbs such as mint, thyme, laurel, rosemary, pepper and others.
With honeysuckle we can make various hot or cold teas and it combines wonderfully with mountain tea or mint.

Traditional Properties

Traditionally, honeysuckle tea is used as a mild sedative to help with insomnia, but it also has other mental health benefits as it improves memory, clears the mind and can be used against depression. It has antioxidant properties and improves heart function, especially in cases of hypertension. It relieves digestive disorders, catarrh, migraines, while it can also reduce period pains.
